RICO 5K SERIES
The 2008 5k series will comprises 3 races of which 3 make a series.
The first race was held on May 24, 2008 starting on the Mono running track and taking
in a "City Circuit". Rasalula Nagarit burst onto the scene narrowly beating Steven
Asson in the men while Claire-Louise Whiley battled with Darwn Peters to take first
place.
For the June 7 course runners started at the HLSCC community college to tackle "the
Beast". Rasalula fought off Steve to win by 15 seconds and Darwn Peters took the
ladies.
In the last of three wins Rasalula tore up the Olympic day course to set a new 5k record
followed by Steve Asson and Aliston Blyden for the overall titles. Belinda Boyd took
first place for the ladies in the Olympic Day run with overall series winner Kay Reddy,
Adele Perrot and Ashling Dwyer.
Over on Virgin Gorda Timon Robinson set a blistering pace of 17.36.23 to narrowly
miss the records with Laverne "Ebony" Fahie leading the ladies.
ALL RACES START AT 7.00AM WITH REGISTRATION FROM 6.30AM. THERE IS NO
CHARGE AND HIGHLAND SPRING WATER WILL BE PROVIDED. ALL PARTICIPANTS
OF ALL ABILITIES ARE WELCOME AND VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED. 3 RACES
MAKE UP THE OVERALL SERIES.
COURSES
OLYMPIC DAY RUN, JUNE 21, 2008
TORTOLA
The race will start and end on the Mondo track at the A. O. Shirley Recreation
Grounds. The race begins at the 100 meters starting line, from there runners cover 250
meters, exit the facility through the south gate and head towards the Bobby’s
Roundabout. The race proceeds to the Administration Drive, passing Scotia and
Banco Popular, turning on Waterfront Drive and to the Hospital entrance. From there,
the race continues up main street (no turn up the incline) turning left between the
Elmore Stoutt High School and the Softball Grounds, through Lower Estate and out to
Huntums Ghut, and turning right by the junction to the Police Station, down to the stop
light marking a right back to the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds, turning right and
continuing 250 meters to the finish line, to complete the 3.1 mile run.
PARAQUITA BEAST JUNE 7TH, 2008
2 miles College Classic with an extra 1.1 mile loop around the Marine College Complex
“Paraquita Beast”.
